Anahuac: Or, Mexico and the Mexicans, Ancient and Modern

This volume presents an account of travels and excursions undertaken largely on horseback through Mexico between March and June of 1856. The narrative examines the country, its people, and its antiquities during a temporary lull in civil unrest. Topics covered include ancient population remains, obsidian weapons, Mexican numerals, indigenous art, and connections between Mexican and Central American art.
