John Brown’s Prayer

Omnipotent and steadfast God,

Who, in Thy mercy, hath

Upheaved in me Jehovah’s rod

And his chastising wrath,

For fifty-nine unsparing years

Thy Grace hath worked apart

To mould a man of iron tears
