So hot that hatred, sharp that enmity, wherewith his spirit ’gainst his guests was fraught, that knew them followers of that verity by the Seed of David to our fathers taught. Oh darkling secret of Eternity, whereof man’s judgment may encompass naught! Why should they never lack perfidious foe, who such fair symbols of Thy friendship show?
