154. But when Cyrus had marched away from Sardis, Pactyas caused the Lydians to revolt from Tabalos and from Cyrus. This man went down to the sea, and having in his possession all the gold that there had been in Sardis, he hired for himself mercenaries and persuaded the men of the seacoast to join his expedition. So he marched on Sardis and besieged Tabalos, having shut himself up in the citadel. 155.
