PARENTHESES.

In finding the value of a compound expression the operations indicated for each term must be performed before the operation indicated by the sign prefixed to the term.

When there is no sign expressed between single symbols or between simple and compound expressions, it must be remembered that the sign understood is the sign of multiplication. Thus 2(a−b) has the same meaning as 2×(a−b).
