One sudden irrelevant idea almost made him laugh. Napoleon, the pyramids, Waterloo, and a wretched skinny old woman, a pawnbroker with a red trunk under her bed⁠—it’s a nice hash for Porfiry Petrovitch to digest! How can they digest it!
