Azzolino, or Ezzolino di Romano, tyrant of Padua, nicknamed the Son of the Devil. Ariosto, Orlando Furioso , III 33, describes him as

“Fierce Ezelin, that most inhuman lord,

Who shall be deemed by men a child of hell.”
