as that of the central Spot. Also in the Borders of the Rings, where the Colours began to emerge out of the whiteness, they were pretty distinct, which made them visible to a very great multitude. I have sometimes number'd above thirty Successions (reckoning every black and white Ring for one Succession) and seen more of them, which by reason of their smalness I could not number. But in other Positions of the Prisms, at which the Rings appeared of many Colours, I could not distinguish above eight or nine of them, and the Exterior of those were very confused and dilute.

En estas dos Observaciones para ver los Anillos distintos, y sin más Color que el Negro y el blanco, hallé necesario mantener mi Ojo a una buena distancia de ellos.

Pues al acercarme más, aunque con la misma inclinación de mi Ojo hacia el Plano de los Anillos, surgía un Color azulado del blanco, el cual al dilatarse más y más en el negro, hacía que los Círculos fuesen menos distintos, y dejaba el blanco un poco teñido de rojo y amarillo.

Hallé también que al mirar a través de una rendija o agujero oblongo, que era más estrecho que la pupila de mi Ojo, y sostenido cerca de este paralelo a los Prismas, podía ver los Círculos mucho más distintos y visibles en un número mucho mayor que de otro modo.
