Prisma desviada más lejos del lugar Y hacia el que tendía antes de la Refracción; y por tanto sufrió tanto en el primer prisma como en el segundo una mayor refracción que el resto de la Luz, y por consiguiente era más refractable que el resto, incluso antes de su incidencia en el primer Prisma.

Sometimes I placed a third Prism after the second, and sometimes also a fourth after the third, by all which the Image might be often refracted sideways: but the Rays which were more refracted than the rest in the first Prism were also more refracted in all the rest, and that without any Dilatation of the Image sideways: and therefore those Rays for their constancy of a greater Refraction are deservedly reputed more refrangible.

Pero para que el significado de este Experimento aparezca más claramente, ha de considerarse que los Rayos que son igualmente refractables caen sobre un Círculo correspondiente al Disco del Sol. Pues esto se demostró en el tercer Experimento.

Por Círculo no entiendo aquí un Círculo geométrico perfecto, sino cualquier Figura orbicular cuya longitud sea igual a su anchura, y que, al Sentido, pueda parecer circular.

Represente, por tanto, AG [en la Fig. 15.] el Círculo que todos los Rayos más refrangibles propagados desde todo el Disco del Sol iluminarían y pintarían en la pared opuesta si estuvieran solos; EL, el Círculo que todos los Rayos menos refrangibles iluminarían y pintarían de igual manera si estuvieran solos; BH, CJ, DK, los Círculos que otras tantas clases intermedias de Rayos pintarían sucesivamente en la pared, si fueran
