âIt is deep, AkoĂșlya, Iâm afraid!â
âCome on,â replied the other. âDonât be frightened. It wonât get any deeper.â
When they got near one another, AkoĂșlya said:
âMind, MalĂĄsha, donât splash. Walk carefully!â
She had hardly said this, when MalĂĄsha plumped down her foot so that the water splashed right on to AkoĂșlyaâs frock. The frock was splashed, and so were AkoĂșlyaâs eyes and nose. When she saw the stains on her frock, she was angry and ran after MalĂĄsha to strike her. MalĂĄsha was frightened, and seeing that she had got herself into trouble, she scrambled out of the puddle, and prepared to run home. Just then AkoĂșlyaâs mother happened to be passing, and seeing that her daughterâs skirt was splashed, and her sleeves dirty, she said:
âYou naughty, dirty girl, what have you been doing?â
âMalĂĄsha did it on purpose,â replied the girl.
