In the morning captain Michael Cresap came to the camp. I then gave him the information as above related. They then met in Council, and after an hour or more captain Cresap returned to me, and informed that he could not prevail on them to adopt the proposal I had made to them, that as he had a great regard for captain R. Callender, a brother in law of mine with whom I was connected in trade, he advised me by no means to think of proceeding any further, as he was convinced the present party would fall on and kill every Indian they met on the river, that for his part he should not continue with them, but go right across the country to Red-Stone to avoid the consequences. That we then proceeded to Hocking and went up the same to the canoe place where we found our people at work, and after some days we proceeded to the towns on Siota by land. On our arrival there, we heard of the different murders committed by the party on their way up the Ohio.
Este Depositante declara además que en el año de 1774, acompañó a Lord Dunmore en la expedición contra los chawanis y otros indios en el Siota, que a su llegada a 15 millas de los pue- blos, les salió al encuentro una bandera y un hombre i: i6 3 blanco de nombre Elliot, quien informó a Lord Dunmore que los jefes de los chawanis habían enviado a rogar a Su Señoría que detuviera a su ejército y enviara a alguna persona que entendiera su idioma;
que este Deponente, a petición de lord Dtinmor y de la totalidad de los oficiales que lo acompañaban, entró;
