El 26 de mayo de 1919, el "New York Times" anunció que se publicaría un periódico semanal bolchevique en esa ciudad:
"Nicholai Lenine, the Premier, and Leon Trotzky, the Minister of War, together with other officials of the Russian Bolshevist Government, will begin next Monday the publication in this city of a sixteen page weekly newspaper, the purpose of which will be to spread propaganda favorable to the Bolsheviki. This announcement is made in today's issue of the propaganda sheet issued weekly from the headquarters of Ludwig C. A. K. Martens, the unrecognized 'Bolshevist Ambassador' to the United States. The paper is to be known as 'Soviet Russia.'" "'Every friend of Russia, as well as every person interested in international affairs,' says the announcement, 'will subscribe to this weekly.' 'Soviet Russia' will contain news items, editorials, original articles, and unpublished documents."
El Partido Socialista Americano reconoce que el régimen bolchevique de asesinato y hambre es un régimen socialista y afirma que defiende los elevados ideales proletarios internacionales. Debs y la prensa socialista americana, al momento de escribir estas líneas, reconocen que los bolcheviques son socialistas de verdad, no reaccionarios ni socialistas meramente de nombre, como el grupo de Ebert y Scheidemann en Alemania. Quieren
