La teoría de la empresa comercial esbozada más arriba se aplica a aquellos negocios que se ocupan de los ajustes intersticiales del sistema de industrias.

Esta labor de mantener y perturbar los ajustes intersticiales no busca inmediatamente la producción de bienes como su fuente de ganancia, sino las alteraciones de valores implicadas en las alteraciones del equilibrio, y la consecución de una situación de negocios más favorable para algunas de las empresas involucradas.

Esta labor se encuentra en el medio, entre la empresa comercial propiamente dicha, por un lado, y la empresa industrial en el sentido más estricto, por el otro. Está dirigida a la obtención de ganancias mediante el aprovechamiento de aquellas coyunturas de negocios que surgen de la concatenación de procesos en el sistema industrial.

De manera similar, puede decirse que el negocio comercial se ocupa de coyunturas que surgen de las circunstancias del sistema industrial en su conjunto, pero que no tienen su origen en las exigencias mecánicas de los procesos industriales. Las coyunturas del negocio comercial propiamente dicho son, en lo fundamental, fortuitas, en la medida en que son
