XXXII. En el que Phileas Fogg entabla una lucha directa con la mala fortuna

Phileas Fogg hailed a boat, got into it, and soon found himself on board the Henrietta , iron-hulled, wood-built above. He ascended to the deck, and asked for the captain, who forthwith presented himself. He was a man of fifty, a sort of sea-wolf, with big eyes, a complexion of oxidised copper, red hair and thick neck, and a growling voice.

—¿El capitán? —preguntó mister Fogg.

“Soy el capitán.”

“Soy Phileas Fogg, de Londres”.

“Y yo soy Andrew Speedy, de Cardiff”.

“¿Vas a hacerte a la mar?”

“En una hora.”

“Te diriges a—”

“Burdeos.”

“¿Y su cargamento?”

“Sin carga. Navegando en lastre.”

“¿Tiene usted pasajeros?”

“Sin pasajeros. Nunca llevo pasajeros. Estorban demasiado.”

«¿Es su embarcación una nave veloz?»

–Entre once y doce nudos. El Henrietta, bien conocido.

«¿Me llevará a mí y a otras tres personas a Liverpool?»

“¿A Liverpool? ¿Por qué no a China?”
