Ella le repetía incesantemente: «Cómo te quiero, mi pequeño amor. ¿Tú también me quieres, nene?».

Ya no podía soportar que lo llamaran «mi pequeño animalito» o «nene», sin sentir la tentación de llamarla «vieja».

Ella le decía:

«Qué locura la mía haberme entregado a ti. Pero no me arrepiento. Es tan dulce amar».

Todo aquello le parecía a Jorge irritante en boca de ella. Murmuraba: «Es tan dulce amar», como la aldeana de un teatro.
